Tinnitus is often in comorbidity with anxiety and depression, and several authors have proposed a reduced efficiency of the top-down executive control in its perception. This single-group study describes a novel application of the metacognitive therapy (MCT), which works on a top-down engagement of proactive attentional control mechanisms on a group of patients with tinnitus, to see its impact on the perception of tinnitus and its anxiety and depression correlates. Effects of tinnitus on postural control and stabilization: A pilot study

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the tinnitus's impacts on postural control. Material and methods: Sixty-six subjects (age: 46,71 ± 15,12 years, height 166,32 ± 8,88 cm, weight 64,85 ± 12,57 kg) with idiopathic tinnitus were recruited for the study and were tested. Tinnitus is a frequent symptom in audiological clinical practice characterized by an abnormal noise perceived in one or both ears or in the head, in which a patient has a conscious hearing percept in absence of external sound. Tinnitus might be caused by a homeostatic response of central dorsal cochlear nucleus auditory neurons that makes them hyperactive in compensation to auditory input loss. The aim of this study was to develop an abridged version of the Tinnitus Questionnaire (TQ) to be used as a quick tool for the assessment of tinnitus-related psychological distress. Data from 351 inpatients and 122 outpatients with chronic tinnitus were used to analyse item statistics and psychometric properties. Twelve items with an optimal combination of high item-total correlations, reliability and sensitivity in assessing changes were selected for the Mini-TQ. The current study investigated the role of fear-avoidance-a concept from chronic pain research-in chronic tinnitus. A self-report measure the "Tinnitus Fear-Avoidance Cognitions and Behaviors Scale (T-FAS)" was developed and validated. Multifrequency audiometry, using 20 Hz steps between 125 Hz to 800 Hz, studies patients affected by essential tinnitus. Bilateral normal auditive perception, tested using standard audiometers, was not confirmed in all patients analysed using the multifrequency technique. We observed neurosensorial deficit areas between 1040-1100 Hz and between 1920-1960 Hz. These results were integrated with diagnostic imaging and tested coclear nucleus microiscaemic areas and endococlear suffering. The patients who were given medical treatment showed benefits which were confirmed by partial regression of the neurosensorial deficit and tinnitus.

Abstract Objective tinnitus is defined as a type of tinnitus perceived by both the patient and external observer. This paper presents two cases of objective tinnitus related to palatal tremor, along with a literature review. Palatal tremor is a condition characterized by soft palate involuntary contractions. Two types of palatal tremor have been described: symptomatic palatal tremor and essential palatal tremor, with different clinical manifestations.
